The Magician

THE MAGICIAN

Creation · mastery · will · transformation

The Magician is represented here as an Alchemist, standing before a table bearing the four suits of the Tarot.

THE FOUR SUITS

Wands · Cups · Swords · Pentacles

The four suits of the Tarot represent the four elements and the different forces at the Magician’s disposal. The wands represent fire, the pentacles represent earth, the cups represent water and the swords represent air. Together, they symbolize the raw materials of creation, forces that can be combined, directed, and transformed through will and knowledge.

THE FIVE ELEMENTS

Above his head, the five elements are gathered as a symbol of his mastery, the fifth element, spirit, placed above the others.

THE INFINITY SYMBOL

The infinity symbol represents limitless potential, the continuous flow of energy, and the endless cycle of creation and transformation.

THE ALCHEMICAL WHEEL

Behind the Magician, an alchemical wheel evokes the cycles of transformation: breaking down, recombining, and creating anew. It reflects the continual movement of matter and energy through the alchemical process.

THE THREE ALCHEMICAL PRINCIPLES

His robe bears the three fundamental alchemical principles at its centre: Mercury, Sulphur, and Salt.

PLANETARY & METALLIC CORRESPONDENCES

Around the three principles are planetary and metallic correspondences, connecting the Magician to the wider cosmic system of alchemy. Each planet is associated with a corresponding metal: the Sun with Gold, the Moon with Silver, Mercury with Quicksilver, Venus with Copper, Mars with Iron, Jupiter with Tin, and Saturn with Lead.
